With Veteran's Day last week and Thanksgiving coming up in only a few days, November has been a month full of thankfulness in our classroom!
On Veteran's Day, we discussed what a veteran is, why they are important to us, and what traits it takes to be a veteran or active member of the military. After talking, we wrote short thank you notes and decorated our own little veterans. I had a picture on the projector of some of the common uniforms of our nation's 5 military branches, and the kids did their best coloring to replicate them. I then took these, along with letters and projects from many other grades, to the post office to send to the VFW!

A few days later, it was time to decorate our bulletin board in the theme of Thanksgiving! Each kiddo was given 2 white "feathers". On one side of each of these feathers, they wrote down what they were thankful for (using a combo of copying my writing and their own inventive spelling!). Then, they had an assortment of craft supplies to decorate the front with! We had pom poms, buttons, sequins, paper mosaic "tiles", and cut-up tissue paper...and lots, and LOTS of glue. Each feather is entirely unique and was attached to our giant turkey! Along with this are the words "Count our feathers and your blessings", serving as a reminder for everyone who walks by that there is a lot to be thankful for, this month and every month!
I hope you all have a wonderful and safe long weekend! By Tuesday when we leave it will be 62 (nearly) consecutive days in school so far...it's time for a break! I'm already looking forward to all of the Christmas-preparation fun that's slated for when we come back, but certainly I won't rush away the quality time with family (and turkey, and potatoes, and gravy, and pie, and, and, and...)
**REMINDER
Book orders are due on December 4th. This will ensure that our order arrives in time before Christmas break. This includes online orders. I cannot guarantee that online orders placed after the 4th will arrive on time, though I will still be happy to put them through for you if you.
Please make sure that, if you would like these to be a gift for your kiddos, put that somewhere on the envelope that your order form comes to me in. That way I will be able to send them home discretely.
